Pre Questionnaire Results

Pre- Questionnaire Results
I gave out 50 questionnaires to see what content my target audience wanted to see, this helps me when coming to make, edit and distribute our film.

  • What is your favourite film of all time?
The results I got were all varied; quite a few people chose the new film Avatar along with Hurt Locker, this doesn’t really help us with making the film apart from the genre, however I think avoiding these two genres will benefit the film.

  • Who is your favourite actor/actress of all time?
This like the 1st question doesn’t give us too much information on our new film; it’s more of a question to get the person intrigued in the questionnaire, leading to the more helpful questions. It does give us some information on what type of acting to have in our film. Tobin Bell was voted the most times, he plays in many horrific films, such as Saw, which gave us the idea of a sick and twisted character

  • Where do you prefer watching films/movies?
This question was to see how we was going to distribute our film, 80% of the public said they prefer going to the cinema to watch a film/movie. This is followed by 15% saying they prefer watching DVD’s and only 5% saying they prefer watching it on a portable device. This gives us information of how to distribute the film. Because of the high demand of cinema watching, we have decided to put it into the cinema so people can get the best experience possible.

  • What storyline do you look for in a film?
This was a split decision with frightening, mysterious and upbeat. This helped us decide our genre and storyline; we will mix the three together to create a mystery thriller. We decided to make our film contain occasional jumpy scenes, a mysterious storyline and fast paced scenes.

  • Do you like to see a lot of special effects in films?
This question was for us to get an idea of how many special effects we should use in the film. With 70% saying no and 30% yes we decided to only have a minimal amount of special effects, as too much could make it look gimmicky and un-professional.

  • How long on average can you sit watching a film for?
This gives us an idea of how long to make our film without the audience losing interest and not gaining the full experience. The majority of people answered 61-90 minutes (75%). 20% responded with 121+ minutes and 5% saying less than 1 hour.  This means our film will be roughly 90-100 minutes long based on our response.

  • Do you like your films to concentrate on one storyline or several?
The response we got was surprisingly one-sided, 80% chose they only like the film to concentrate on one storyline and 20% chose several. This helped us greatly when we decided to chose the storyline to be about one man and his troubles.

  • Do you like films which you can refer to in everyday life?
This was a 60-40% favour in people do like to refer to everyday life; the others claimed they like to feel escapism to get away from the real world. We decided to base our film on rape, which is in everyday life but not as much as stuff like drugs and knife crime. With it being a horror film, we can also get the chance to escape everyday life.

  • How much would you spend on a DVD?
This was to find out how much we will charge for our DVD after it has had its time in the cinema. We have decided to release the DVD 7 months after the Cinema release and the price would be £8. This is because 60% of the public chose £7-9, therefore we will charge the middle price of £8.

  • Would you be interested in subscribing to our film company LastShot films?
This was to see what people would like to subscribe for our film industry and get information about upcoming films and events. 38/50 chose they would like to receive mailings about the film industry.

Conclusion
In conclusion we decided to make a horror/thriller film which will be distributed in the cinema; we won’t crowd the film with special effects. The film will be around 90-100 minutes and will focus on one man. This questionnaire has helped us decided on these topics, and will help distribute and make our film.
